The 100-second club

This test set is epic. It was shared by Shawn Slevin of the Swim Strong Foundation. Shawn has coached swimming in the New York City vicinity and is a tireless advocate for getting swimmers and families to learn to swim. LinkedIn for Swim Strong Foundation.

  1. The first step is to gather all of an individual's best times in all the events.
  2. The second  step and ultimate goal is to improve the sum of all of those times by 100 seconds.

The events in the test set and spreadsheets include time for 25, 50s and 100s of Back, Breast, Fly. Plus, the 25, 50, 100, 200 and 500 in Freestyle. And, the 100 IM, 200 IM and 400 IM. The chart below shows all of the 16 events.

Those are a lot of time trials!
Great record keeping is needed.

Meter pools present another twist and additional spreadsheet rows.

Seems as if the original coach / creator types a "Y" after the swimmers' names to designate that the times on that line are for the short-course yard pools.

A person has the ability to enter the 100-second club in yards pools as well as long-course or meters pools. The event line up might shift too.

Variations

Of course, coaches can make their own line up of events.

Of course, coaches can make their own standard for the reduction in seconds before celebrating.
